<\/center><\/p>\nLos comienzos del Colegio se remontan al a\u00f1o 1897 como resultado de la uni\u00f3n de dos proyectos: por un lado, un grupo de residentes de habla inglesa en Lomas de Zamora hab\u00eda constituido el Lomas School Committee, con el fin de concretar la aspiraci\u00f3n de fundar un colegio para sus hijos, al estilo de los “public schools” que conoc\u00edan; por otro lado, el Ferrocarril del Sud (ex-l\u00ednea Roca), obra de empresas inglesas, por una disposici\u00f3n de las autoridades, decidi\u00f3 crear el Barker Memorial Hall con un aporte inicial de 2000 libras esterlinas.<\/p>\n
Este aporte fue creado en honor al brit\u00e1nico Charles Oxtoby Barker, quien fue, por m\u00e1s de un cuarto de siglo, un alto empleado de dicha empresa.<\/p>\n
El Colegio fue mixto hasta 1914, de ni\u00f1as exclusivamente entre 1915 y 1973, y mixto nuevamente a partir de 1974. Fue el Barker Memorial School hasta 1903, Lomas Academy entre 1904 y 1914 y finalmente Barker College a partir de 1915.<\/p>\n
El Colegio traslad\u00f3 sus actividades al solar de la Av. Meeks y Mitre en 1959, y adquiri\u00f3 la propiedad donde funciona el Colegio Secundario en Av. Meeks y Sixto Fern\u00e1ndez en 1970. En 1981 se compr\u00f3 el terreno para el Barkerfield (nuestro campo de deportes en Longchamps).<\/p>\n
El Colegio Barker es Centro Examinador Oficial de la Universidad de Cambridge desde 1936; miembro de ESSARP (English Speaking Scholastic Association of the River Plate), y de ADE (Asociaci\u00f3n Deportiva Estudiantil) desde 1962, entidades que nuclean a los m\u00e1s antiguos y encumbrados colegios biling\u00fces del pa\u00eds, organizando eventos y competencias intercolegiales a nivel acad\u00e9mico, art\u00edstico y deportivo. En 1995 fund\u00f3, junto a numerosos colegios biling\u00fces de Am\u00e9rica latina, el LAHC (Latin American Heads Conference).<\/p>\n
Tambi\u00e9n es socio fundador del British Arts Centre, entidad con fines culturales, que cuenta con el aval del Consulado Brit\u00e1nico.<\/p>\n
Desde los inicios del Colegio, se form\u00f3 la O.B.A. Old Barkonian Association (Asociaci\u00f3n de Ex-alumnos del Colegio Barker), con el objeto de fortalecer los v\u00ednculos entre las distintas promociones de egresados.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Nuestro Escudo” tab_id=”1465004614-2-21″][vc_column_text align=”center” animation=”fade-in”]\n

<\/center><\/p>\nEn 1915, cuando Miss Constance Jones se hizo cargo de la Direcci\u00f3n General del Colegio, se cre\u00f3 el escudo tal como hoy lo conocemos: marr\u00f3n, celeste y dorado, con siete flores de liz doradas y el lema “Labor Omnia Vincit” o “Politeness Costs Nothing” alrededor del escudo, el cual terminaba en punta en su parte inferior.<\/p>\n
En 1923, Mrs. Aileen Cleaver realiz\u00f3 los cambios que han perdurado hasta el presente, redondeando la parte inferior del escudo e incorporando el lema “Manners Maketh Man”.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Nuestro Himno” tab_id=”1465005652091-2-8″][vc_column_text align=”center” animation=”fade-in”]\n

<\/center><\/p>\nEntre 1966 y 1967, la profesora de m\u00fasica, Alannah Delias, propuso a las alumnas la creaci\u00f3n de un himno para el Colegio. El texto escrito por la alumna Diana Houston fue el seleccionado y es el que actualmente se canta, con la m\u00fasica de la Suite de “Los Planetas”, compuesta por Gustave Holst en 1918.<\/p>\n
